The Past

The idea of the Global Village Project to simultaneously connect youth led development action projects in different countries and world regions was developed by young and adult people of United Games and was triggered off by their participation in the World Youth Congress Series:

World Youth Congress World Youth Congress

In those Congresses young people from around the world came together to discuss their roles in the field of sustainable development and how young people can help to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Besides all the important discussions young people identified the necessity that they themselves need to become active to transform their dreams, ideas and wishes into concrete and sustainable results through youth led development action projects on a local level.
The question was how to keep alive the inspiration and motivation you get during a global gathering of young people once you have returned home to your village or town and where the problems of daily life are waiting for you?

The Global Village Project is a tool to interconnect those active young people with the help of the internet in order to promote their action projects on an international and even global level. It is a tool to especially show to the adult world what young people can achieve on a local level to make life more worth living for everybody when they get the support and acknowledgement they need.

In 2005 United Games started to set up the Global Village Project Team with young people, students and teachers from the University of Applied Sciences (FH JOANNEUM) in Kapfenberg and Graz, Austria and the first pilot project was organised in which youth led development action projects in six European countries as well as in Ghana (Africa) and India were simultaneously connected with each other. The pilot project was so successful that the decision was made to continue and extend the project in 2006 as the so-called Global Village Project in which youth led development projects in 15 countries around the globe are connected in the Action Week from 28th May to 4th June.

The Future
Join us in the Global Village Project 2007

We want to continue with the Global Village Project also in 2007 with the intention to involve even more youth initiatives and projects in more countries around the world at the same time. If you want to join us in our global journey with your youth initiative or youth group please sign up!

We are also in close contact with Peace Child International a long standing partner organisation of United Games. United Games and Peace Child worked together during the first three World Youth Congresses – with some success and some disappointments. The next Congress, in Quebec City in 2008, is taking on board the idea of a congress being a catalyst for actions around the world in an excellent way. Therefore, as the Global Village Project is growing each year by including projects in more and more countries, the leadership of United Games and Peace Child International intend to find ways to collaborate even more closely. What that collaboration will look like is for the young people of United Games and the youthful leadership of the Canadian World Youth Congress plus Peace Child International to decide. But it could just be that the 4th World Youth Congress, in Quebec City in August 2008 will be a massive Mission Control Centre event lasting from May/June 2008 to the climax in August 2008.
