Simply, Sustainably, Straw

  • Why is your project important?

The essence of this project lies in it's simplicity: straw. We will show that this clean, inexpensive and renewable resource can and should be used. Too many people are convinced that a sustainable lifestyle is very expensive, particularly sustainable agriculture, and our project will show them that this is not entirely true.

  • What would you like to achive? What are your goals?

Our main goal is education - in the broad sense.
For the general public, we are not setting out to convert anybody (although that would be nice!). Ideas take time to sink in and we just want people to hear about what we are doing, ask questions and take us seriously without feeling threatened. We want the idea that sustainable agriculture is easier and less expensive than people think - for people to get comfortable with the idea of it.
For the students who come to visit we feel that the exposure and hands on experience will fill a much needed hole in their education thus far. We want to give these children the opportunity to learn about things like sustainability, youth action, biodiversity, climate change and how everything is connected on the international level. We also want to show these kids that all this "stuff" is not stupid, but very cool and that anybody can get involved.

  • Who are your supporters?

PEI Eco-Net, Grand Tracadie School, Family, Friends, Community
